How and Where
I have provided psychotherapy face-to-face in my office, as well as by 2-way video as long the client is in California. I provide executive coaching face-to-face in my office, in the client’s office, via the phone, or by video services such as Skype. As an “early adopter,” I have been successfully engaging with 2-way video since 2005.
Working individually, I offer 50 minute meetings once a week. I’ve found that the rhythm and consistency of weekly meetings -- on the same day and time, if possible -- is important, especially working with a fixed number of meetings. Consistent rhythms are important in our 24/7 world, and I’ve seen how the mind and the body can more settle down and absorb the process more easily and deeper with the consistency.
If you're in the Bay Area, my office is located in the Market Hall complex in Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood, conveniently located adjacent to the BART station (just off the 24).
If we're working by video, on the other hand, it’s important to create an environment that is as private, quiet, and as undisturbed as possible. That means maximum bandwidth or very good wireless, cell phone off, notifications off, and a private, secure, and comfortable setting. What conditions the process of awareness and change is, first and foremost, the creation of space and reflection.
