I am Michael
Shaw, a licensed clinical psychologist in Santa Monica. My practice, which
I call Workpsyche, provides an effective approach to individual and couples
psychotherapy. But the service extends beyond symptoms or problems. It
also offers a person greater psychological strength in self, relationships
and work.

and Design
I am the Psychogical Consultant at the Southern California Institute of
Architecture (SCI-Arc). Previously, I served the same role at Otis College
of Art and Design. I have spent a lot of time in studios collaborating
with students and instructors on the design process. In my practice, I
regularly work with designers, writers and creative professionals.
Creative
Process
I attended an MFA Program in Creative Writing and have a degree in Literature
from Occidental College. I also have done research on creativity, including
functions of narrative, and how metaphors create insight.
Consciousness
Throughout my life, I have been involved in consciousness studies, including
East-West comparative research, mind-body techniques and meditation practice.
Corporate
I held an executive-level marketing position in a Fortune 1000 company.
Spending time in various divisions, I was exposed to different businesses,
cultures and organizational dynamics.
Technology
and Multimedia
I have developed specifications and proposals for large-scale computer
systems, and have also managed multimedia production.
Psychological
Training and Practice
I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychological from the California School of
Professional Psychology (Los Angeles) with an emphasis in Health Psychology.
I have done intensive training and study in Characterological Psychology.
I also teach and supervise other clinicians.
I am affiliated with the Center for Effective Psychotherapy, a network of clinical professionals who study and utilize a characterological approach to psychotherapy.
